*I was provided with a copy of this book from Hot Key Books in exchange for an honest review*

Matthew Reilly is one of my all time favourite authors, so when I found out that he was coming out with a new book, I was so excited and I knew I had to get my hands on it as soon as possible. In the end I felt like this book wasn’t as good as his other books, but I did still really enjoy it ad would definitely recommend it.

The main reason I didn’t give this book a full 5 stars is because it wasn’t packed with cover to cover action and violence like his other books are, which made me a bit sad because I love the action and violence in his books, and I love that his books just dive right into it. That being said, I still did really enjoy the parts of this book that weren’t action and violence, so it still didn’t really affect my reading experience that much. The last 100 pages were so packed with action and violence that it more than made up for the lack at the start.

Despite the lack of action and violence in the start of the book, I could still easily tell that this book was written by Matthew Reilly. Aside from action and violence, his books always have lots of maps and ancient artifacts, and The Secret Runners definitely had those things, which I loved.

This book was also so easy to just fly through. It was such a quick and captivating read, and it got even more so when the action really picked up towards the end.

Overall, I really loved this book, and the only reason it didn’t get five stars is because it’s not quite as good as his other books. If you are a Matthew Reilly fan, I would definitely recommend picking this book up.
